In times of economic uncertainty, it’s important for families to take measures to ensure that they can still get the medications they need without breaking the bank. Although prescription drugs may be expensive, there are ways to save money when it comes to over-the-counter (OTC) drugs.

To start saving money on OTC drugs, look into generic brands or store brands. These will often have the same active ingredients with a lower price tag than name-brand products and can be a great way to reduce costs. Additionally, some retail stores offer loyalty programs and special deals for purchasing multiple items at once – these can help stretch your dollar and provide bigger savings in the long run. It’s also important to compare prices between different stores so you can find the best deal for your needs.

When shopping around for OTC medications, remember that there is a wide range of products available – from pain relievers and cold medicines to vitamins and supplements – so make sure to check out all your options before making a purchase. Also keep in mind that certain stores may carry discounts on certain medications from time to time, so make sure you are taking advantage of any promotional offers that may be available in your area.

Another option for reducing costs is to explore online retailers or subscription services that offer discounts and savings on OTC medications and other drugstore items. Lastly, don’t forget about coupons – they can often provide additional savings on products you would already be buying!

Taking care of your health is incredibly important during times of financial uncertainty – but it doesn’t have to break the bank. With a little bit of research and planning ahead, families can save money on over-the-counter medication while still getting the quality care they deserve.

The start of a new year always brings a feeling of freshness and excitement. It’s the perfect time to set goals for yourself and strive to become the healthiest version of you in 2023. Whether you’re looking to lose weight, quit smoking, or simply eat healthier – having clear goals and an actionable plan can go a long way towards achieving your health resolutions. Here are some tips for setting achievable goals that will help you be healthy in the new year.

Make SMART Goals

SMART is an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound. When creating your health resolution goals, make sure they meet these criteria so that they are achievable. For example, if one of your resolutions is to lose 10lbs this year then break it down into smaller attainable steps such as losing 1lb per month or working out 3 times per week. By breaking your goal down into more manageable chunks, it will be easier to stay motivated and on track throughout the year.

Don’t be Too Hard on Yourself

Achieving any type of goal takes effort and hard work but don’t forget to be kind to yourself along the way too! If you slip up or miss a few workouts or meals here and there don’t get discouraged—just keep going! Take things one day at a time and give yourself grace when needed; focusing on the small victories each day can help keep you motivated throughout the entire process.

Set Up A Support System

Having a support system is also important when it comes to achieving your health-related goals. Whether it’s family members, friends, coworkers, or even your doctor, having someone who can cheer you on and motivate you can be key to helping you stay on track with your resolutions. It’s also beneficial to reach out to others who may be going through similar experiences as you and create a sense of accountability among each other.

  Find an Activity You Enjoy

Finally, find an activity that you enjoy doing! Exercise doesn’t have to be boring – there are plenty of fun ways to stay active such as running or biking outdoors, playing sports with friends, swimming at the local pool, dancing classes at the gym, etc. Finding something enjoyable will make it easier for you to stick with it and make it part of your daily routine.

The start of a new year is always an exciting time full of possibilities so take this opportunity to set achievable health goals for yourself! By following these tips and connecting with our team at Rochester Medical Group we know that our patients can achieve anything they put their minds too during this upcoming year—and beyond! Best wishes for 2023.

The holiday season is a time for family, friends, and food. Lots and lots of food. It’s easy to let your healthy eating habits slide during this time of year, but with a little planning and effort, it’s possible to enjoy all your favorite holiday foods without putting your health at risk. Here are a few tips to help you stay on track.

Plan Ahead

One of the best ways to make sure you eat healthy during the holidays is to plan ahead. If you know you’re going to be indulging in some less-than-healthy foods, make sure to balance it out with healthy meals and snacks earlier in the day. That way you won’t be as hungry when it comes time for holiday dinner or dessert. And speaking of dessert…

Choose Your Treats Carefully

It’s ok to indulge in your favorite holiday sweets, but be selective about what you choose. For example, if you know you can’t resist grandma’s famous apple pie, skip the cookies and have a smaller slice of pie instead. And when it comes to holiday cocktails, opt for wine or light beer over mixed drinks which can be loaded with sugar. A little moderation will go a long way in keeping you on track.

Stay Active

Staying active is another key to eating healthy during the holidays. Exercise not only helps offset some of the calories you consume, but it also helps reduce stress which can lead to overeating. So take a brisk walk with the family after dinner or hit the gym before your office holiday party. You’ll feel better and be less likely to indulge in unhealthy foods and beverages.

The holidays are a time for family, friends, and food—but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your health to enjoy them. With a little planning and moderation, you can have your cake (or pie) and eat it too. By following these tips, you can stay on track this holiday season and start the new year feeling your best. At Rochester Medical Group, we care about your health, schedule an appointment today,

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, making it the perfect time to learn about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, as well as the risk factors that can make you more likely to develop this disease. Knowledge is power, so arm yourself with the facts and be proactive about your breast health.

What Is Breast Cancer?

Breast cancer is a type of cancer that develops in the cells of the breast. Although breast cancer most commonly affects women, men can also develop this disease. There are several different types of breast cancer, depending on which cells in the breast are affected. The most common type of breast cancer is ductal carcinoma, which starts in the milk ducts.

Signs and Symptoms of Breast Cancer

The signs and symptoms of breast cancer vary depending on the type and stage of the cancer. In its early stages, breast cancer may not cause any symptoms at all. This is why regular self-exams and mammograms are so important. As the cancer grows, it may cause changes such as a lump in the breast or armpit, dimpling or puckering of the skin, nipple discharge or pain, or a change in the size or shape of the breast. If you notice any of these changes, it’s important to contact your doctor right away for further testing.

Risk Factors for Breast Cancer

There are several factors that can increase your risk for developing breast cancer. These include being female (since men can also develop this disease), getting older (the vast majority of cases are diagnosed in women over age 50), a family history of breast or ovarian cancer, certain genetic mutations (such as BRCA1 and BRCA2), dense breasts, previous radiation therapy to the chest area, obesity, alcohol consumption, hormone replacement therapy during menopause, starting menstruation at a young age or going through menopause at an older age, never giving birth or having your first child after age 30, and having certain benign breast conditions.

Most people have one or more risk factors for developing breast cancer. However, having a risk factor does not mean that you will definitely develop this disease – many people with multiple risk factors never go on to develop cancer. Conversely, some people who do not have any known risk factors still develop this disease. That’s why it’s so important to be aware of both your personal risks and your family medical history so that you can make informed decisions about your health care.

This October – Breast Cancer Awareness Month – take charge of your breast health by learning about the signs and symptoms of this disease, as well as your personal risks. Talk to your doctor about when you should start getting mammograms and perform regular self-exams so that you can catch any changes early on. The earlier breast cancer is caught, the better chance you have at surviving it. So don’t wait – get informed today.

Asthma is a common problem that can affect people of any age. It is a chronic lung disease that causes difficulty breathing. In this blog post, we will discuss the signs and symptoms of asthma, as well as the risks and complications associated with the disease. We will also provide tips on how to know when you need to seek medical help.

If you have asthma, you may experience shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing, or chest tightness. These symptoms can range from mild to severe and can be triggered by a variety of things, such as cold air, exercise, dust mites, or pollen. If you have asthma, it is important to know your triggers and avoid them if possible.

Asthma can be a serious problem if not properly controlled. Some complications of asthma include pneumonia, bronchitis, and exacerbations (or flare-ups). Asthma exacerbations can be very dangerous and require immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an exacerbation include increased shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing, and chest tightness. If you experience these symptoms, you should seek medical help immediately.

There are a few things you can do to help control your asthma and prevent exacerbations. First, it is important to have an Asthma Action Plan. This plan will outline what you should do if you have an asthma exacerbation. It is also important to take your medications as prescribed by your doctor. Finally, it is important to avoid your triggers if possible.

If you think you may have asthma, or if you have been diagnosed with asthma and are having difficulty controlling your symptoms, please see your doctor. They will be able to provide you with the best treatment plan for your individual needs. Asthma is a serious condition that requires lifelong management. With proper treatment, however, people with asthma can live normal, healthy lives.

This week is National Childhood Obesity Week, a time to focus on the importance of keeping our kids healthy. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than one-third of children and adolescents in the United States are overweight or obese. This is a serious problem that can lead to health problems later in life. In this blog post, we will discuss some tips for keeping your kids healthy and preventing childhood obesity.

Here are some tips for keeping your kids healthy:

  • Encourage them to eat a healthy diet. This means eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains and limiting sugary drinks and snacks.
  • Make sure they get enough physical activity. Kids should be active for at least 60 minutes every day. This can include playing outside, going for a walk or bike ride, or participating in a sport or other activity.
  • Limit screen time. Too much time spent in front of screens (television, computers, phones) can lead to unhealthy behaviors like snacking more often and being less active. Try to limit screen time to no more than two hours per day for kids over the age of two.
  • Make sure they get enough sleep. Kids need about nine to twelve hours of sleep each night. Getting enough sleep can help them maintain a healthy weight and improve their mood and behavior.
  • Encourage them to cook with you, consider a trip to the farmer’s market or a cooking class together.
  • Model healthy behaviors yourself. Kids are more likely to adopt healthy habits if they see their parents and other adults modeling those behaviors. So, make sure you are eating a healthy diet and being physically active yourself!
  • Limit snacking between meals,  have regular family dinners and avoid eating late at night.
  • Encourage them to be active in their community. There are many ways to be active in your community, such as volunteering, participating in sports or other activities, or joining a youth group.

These are just a few tips for keeping your kids healthy. For more information on childhood obesity and how to prevent it, visit the CDC website at cdc.gov/obesity. With the sun shining and the weather getting warmer, it’s important to start thinking about how to protect your skin from the sun. Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in the United States, and it’s important to take steps to protect yourself from it.

Wearing sunscreen is one of the most important things that you can do to protect your skin from the sun. Make sure to choose a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, and apply it liberally to all exposed skin. You should also reapply sunscreen every two hours, or more often if you are sweating or swimming.

Another good way to protect your skin from the sun is to wear protective clothing. Wear loose-fitting, long-sleeved shirts and pants made from a light-colored, breathable fabric. If you are going to be in the sun for an extended period of time, consider wearing a wide-brimmed hat to shade your face, neck, and ears.

You can also protect your skin by trying to stay in the shade as much as possible. If you are going to be outside for an extended period of time, seek out a shady spot to rest in every so often.

Make sure to drink plenty of water when you are spending time outside in the sun. Dehydration can exacerbate the effects of the sun on your skin, so it’s important to stay hydrated.

Finally, remember to check your skin regularly for any changes. If you notice anything unusual, make sure to see a dermatologist as soon as possible. The ABCDs of checking your mole is to look for ones that are asymmetrical, have irregular borders, are more than one color, have a diameter larger than a pencil eraser, or are evolving.

If you’re trying to eat healthy on a budget, you’re not alone. Many people find it difficult to afford to eat well. However, with a few simple tips and tricks, it’s possible to make healthy eating affordable. In this blog post, we will discuss some of the best ways to save money on your food budget while still eating nutritious and delicious meals. These days, everyone is looking to save money and your nutrition doesn’t have to be sacrificed. Here are 5 tips you can start using today.

  1. Plan Ahead: One of the best ways to save money on your food budget is to plan ahead. When you have a plan, you’re more likely to make wise decisions about what to buy at the grocery store. The best way to plan ahead is by creating a weekly menu and shopping list. This will help you stay focused while you’re at the store and make it less likely that you’ll impulse buy items that you don’t need.
  2. Shop the Sales: Another great way to save money on your food budget is to take advantage of sales. When meats or produce go on sale, stock up! You can freeze meat for future use or cook extra meals with fresh produce and save them for later. Just be sure to not buy more than you can use in a timely manner, or you’ll end up wasting food.
  3. Avoid Processed Foods: Processed foods are often expensive and they’re not always the healthiest option either. If you want to save money on your food budget, avoid buying processed foods as much as possible. Instead, focus on buying fresh fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins. These foods may cost a bit more upfront, but they’ll save you money in the long run by providing your body with the nutrients it needs to function properly.
  4. Buy in Bulk: Another great way to save money on your food budget is to buy in bulk. You can cook meals in your crockpot in big batches and freeze leftovers for fast and convenient dinners later on. This is especially nice on busy weekday nights.  You can also buy non-perishable items like canned goods, rice, and pasta in bulk to save money. Just be sure to have enough storage space for all of your bulk purchases!
  5. Grow Your Own Food: One of the best ways to save money on your food budget is to grow your own food. If you have a green thumb, this is a great way to get fresh fruits and vegetables without having to spend a lot of money. You can also save money by preserving your own food. Canning and pickling are great ways to enjoy seasonal produce all year long.

By following these tips, you can save money on your food budget while still eating healthy. At Rochester Medical Group, we care about the health of your family! Did you know that February is National Girls and Women in Sports Month? This is a time to celebrate the accomplishments of women and girls in sports, as well as promote sport opportunities for all. According to the Women’s Sports Foundation, when girls participate in sports, they are more likely to have:

  • Higher self-esteem
  • Better academic achievement
  • Greater social connectedness
  • Fewer eating disorders and body image issues

There are many reasons why it is important for women and girls to get involved in sports, so let’s take a look at some tips on how to encourage them!

Show Them the Role Models

One of the best ways to encourage girls and women to get involved in sports is to show them how successful women can be in this domain. Women like Serena Williams, Simone Biles, and Misty Copeland have shattered stereotypes and shown that there are no limits to what women can achieve. Their success and hard work prove that women can be strong, fit, and healthy athletes. Consider showing your girls role models like these, so they see the true potential of their strength and abilities!

Make it Fun-Filled Activity for Them

Whether it’s a hike, swimming in the pool, or gathering some friends to play basketball, Sports are a great way to have fun! There is no better way to connect with each other. Girls will enjoy themselves more when they are doing something they love and makes them happy.

Equip Them with the Proper Gear

Girls need good equipment just like boys do in order to participate in sports safely and effectively. Make sure your daughter has proper gear such as a good pair of sneakers, clothes that fit well, and protective gear, depending on what sport they’re in.

Take them to events

Whether you want your daughter to play or just watch, attending games is one way that girls can learn about different sports. The more they see how fun it is, the more likely they are to participate! This also gives her opportunities to meet other people who share similar interests—and get a sense of what it feels like to work together as a team.

Give Them Opportunities to Play Year-Round

Girls don’t have to only play sports in school. There are many opportunities for them to get involved in sports outside of the traditional school year. For example, community centers and clubs often offer different sports programs during the summer or throughout the year. Check online with your local community and encourage her to try something new.

Let Them Play Multiple Sports

Playing multiple sports is a great way for girls to find the one that they love the most. It can also help them stay in shape and improve their skills in different areas. Girls who play multiple sports are more likely to excel in all of them, so encourage her to try out as many as she wants but bottom line is, make sure she’s having fun.

National Girls and Women in Sports Month is a great time to get your daughter involved in sports. With the right encouragement, she can learn new things about herself while enjoying physical activity. Who knows? She may even become one of the next successful female athletes!  At Rochester Medical Group, we care about the health of your family!
